Early Registration for Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC Ends May 4

Friends of MADACC will host its first annual Modern Woodmen of America Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC on Saturday, June 22 – and early registration closes May 4. Friends of MADACC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the welfare of Milwaukee County’s homeless animals housed at Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC).

Attendees can participate in the competitive, chip-timed 5K run (for people only) at 9:30 a.m.; the chip-timed 5K run (for people and their dogs) at 9:45 a.m.; or the one- or two mile walk (for people and their dogs) at 10 a.m. The run/walk will take place at Hart Park, 7300 Chestnut St. in Wauwatosa and will be emceed by Nicole Koglin, Anchor for “FOX6 WakeUp” and “Real Milwaukee.”

Attendees can register for Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC at http://www.madaccwalkrun.org/ by May 4 to save $10 off the entry fee. Children 13 and under are free. Day of registration will be available, but the commemorative Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC tech T-shirt availability or size is not guaranteed.

New this year, Friends of MADACC is offering a “Give Back Program” for the many rescue groups and shelters throughout Wisconsin that help find permanent homes for the cats, dogs, rabbits, goats, and other animals from MADACC. Registrants can donate $2 of their registration fee to any of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit placement partners who have rescued animals from MADACC. Simply type in the name of the shelter or rescue in the question section of the online registration form via http://www.madaccwalkrun.org/ and $2 will be added to that placement partner’s “give back” amount.

Following the run/walk, Central Bark Doggy Day Care and Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists will host Fido Fest, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fido Fest is a free admission event and will also benefit Friends of MADACC. The event will include pet-friendly vendors, adoptable animals, food, and a beer tent. Fido Fest will also have kid-friendly and canine activities, including agility, lure coursing, dock diving demonstrations, pet contests, and more.

All paid registered runners and walkers of Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC will also receive a goody bag. Medals will be awarded to the overall male and female 5K finishers, plus the top finisher in each of fourteen age groups.

To add to the fun and increase the benefit to the animals, participants can also create their own teams. A team can be made up of family, friends, co-workers, companies, or any group that shares a passion to save lives. Teams help increase the number of lives saved and second chances given – and earn prizes based on the level of fundraising they do. More information is available at http://www.madaccwalkrun.org/.

Net proceeds raised from Walk, Run, Wag for MADACC and Fido Fest will support building improvements that contribute to the welfare and enrichment of the nearly 13,000 animals taken in by MADACC each year. MADACC rescues and assures safe, temporary shelter, veterinary, and humane care for stray, unwanted, abandoned, mistreated, and injured animals — more than any other animal control shelter in Wisconsin. MADACC works with more than 75 area shelters and rescue groups to place these animals into adoption programs so they have a second chance at finding permanent, caring homes. Dogs and cats that are eligible for placement but have not been transferred to a shelter or rescue group are available for adoption directly from MADACC. In addition, MADACC offers low-cost spay/neuter, rabies vaccinations, and micro-chipping services.

Visit http://www.madaccwalkrun.org/ to register and stay up to date on all of the event details. Learn more about Fido Fest at www.centralbarkusa.com/fidofest.

Pizzeria Piccola “Society Sundays” to Benefit Wisconsin Adopt A Golden Retriever

Wisconsin Adopt A Golden Retriever, Inc. (WAAGR) is the nonprofit group that will be featured for “Society Sundays” July 24 at Pizzeria Piccola, 7606 W. State St. in Wauwatosa from 4 -9 p.m.

Enjoy a meal and help WAAGR raise funds to help the Golden Retrievers in the group’s care.  WAAGR members will be the wait staff, the table bussing staff and greeters for this event.  WAAGR makes a profit from every meal sold (including take out) and keeps all the tips.  Take-out orders can be placed in advance.  Some frozen menu items can also be pre-ordered and picked up the day of the event to take home:  Margherita, Sausage, and Spicey Salami (pepperoni) pizzas.  If the weather cooperates, patrons can dine in the outdoor patio area.  Call the restaurant at (414) 443-0800 for more information.

According to Pizzeria Piccola’s Web site, www.pizzeriapiccola.com, “As a part of a wonderful community that has been so supportive of us and of our sister restaurant, Ristorante Bartolotta, we are very excited to announce “Society Sundays.” On at least two Sundays a month, we are opening our doors to community organizations which need to raise money through fundraisers.”  Visit the restaurant’s Web site for more information and to see a menu.

“Come enjoy a fantastic meal while helping the Golden Retrievers rescued by WAAGR,” said WAAGR President Amie Trupke.  “WAAGR volunteers look forward to participating in this event and the restaurants’ patrons have always been so supportive of our efforts.  We rely solely on donations to help fulfill our mission and so far in 2011, we have helped more than 30 Goldens and Golden mixes.  We thank everyone who has attended in the past and we hope to see you again.”

WAAGR has taken part in this fundraiser many times since 2006.  WAAGR’s volunteers are appreciative of the response the organization has received at the restaurant.   If the outdoor patio area is open, a Golden or two will join the group to meet and greet patrons.  For more information about this event and other WAAGR events, visit www.waagr.org.  If your nonprofit group is interested in participating in Society Sundays, contact Pizzeria Piccola General Manager Irene Lannoye at (414) 443-0800.
