Raise funds for the Wisconsin Humane Society by playing Cornhole at the Pettit National Ice Center’s Brew City Bags Bash Tournament on Sunday, April 18, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This event will be Milwaukee’s first ACO-sanctioned Cornhole Tournament and the World’s Largest Indoor Cornhole Tournament. THE NATURE OF DOGS “OPENING DAY” Waukesha animal shelter, museum partner for exhibit April 10 – June 12

WAUKESHA ­­— April 2010 — Waukesha’s Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) and the Waukesha County Museum proudly present The Nature of Dogs, opening Saturday, April 10, with a special party from Noon to 2:00 p.m.

The Nature of Dogs, on exhibit from April 10 – June 12 at 101 W. Main St. , Waukesha , features the fine art photography of Mary Ludington.  Notes HAWS Executive Director Lynn Olenik: “Ms. Ludington’s works showcase many of our favorite canine breeds and embraces their spirit and heart.  This show is a must-see for any dog lover.” 

As the first stop on the exhibit’s tour, HAWS and the Museum are marking the 9-week run with special event nights, seminars and fun activities for all ages.

This Saturday, April 10, is “Opening Day” at the Museum.  Join special guest Marilynn Mee from 96.5 WKLH at the official kick-off party for the exhibit from Noon – 2:00 p.m.  Giveaways include free admission to the Museum and HAWS bracelets to the first 96 people to arrive, and doggie bags for their pets – yes, pets are welcome!  Stop in to meet HAWS’ adoptable animals at the Mobile Adoption Center.  Popcorn and hotdogs will be served to complete the “tail”-gate.

Mark your calendar for Rescue Night at the Museum, April 23rd, 5-8pm.  This exciting event will feature a meet-and-greet with local breed rescue groups and their representatives – both human and canine.  Making a very special appearance that evening will be The Nature of Dogs photographer herself, Mary Ludington!

Easter Egg Hunt for Doggies, too!

Three businesses are teaming up for a FANTASTIC Easter Egg Hunt that the whole family will enjoy!! 3 Goldens and A Gator is partnering with Katie’s Canine Klubhouse & Floral Creations by Eileen for our first annual one of a kind Easter Egg Hunt! This event is for the whole family. There is a hunt especially for doggies along with a section just for kids.

        Hunt begins at 11:00am and lasts til 1:00PM

“MARCH” INTO SPRING WITH HAWS!

WAUKESHA ­­— March, 2010 — The Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) of Waukesha County, Inc. takes “March” and spring” literally, with several exciting Mobile Adoption Center events and many great activities!

HAWS’ Mobile Adoption Center brings adoptable animals out into the community.  This month’s special events include:

  • Take your dog with you (really!) to the Milwaukee Admirals Dog Day Afternoon on Sunday, March 7th – HAWS benefits from each ticket purchased using the special code “HAWS” when ordering online, or buy your tickets through Brian at the Admirals office (414-227-0567) and tell him you want your donation to go to HAWS!
  • Make a Spring Break Splash on March 19-20th – at K-9 Splash Center in Oconomowoc.  Bring your pup to play in the pool and support the HAWS cause, too!  Registration required, call 262-569-9540.
  • Good Harvest Market in Waukesha is holding a special sales day for HAWS on March 27th – 5% of purchases made that day will be donated to the shelter, and HAWS’ Executive Director Lynn Olenik will lead a discussion on choosing the right pet and pet care tips.

Get Lucky…or Fido or Fluffy, HAWS annual adoptathon/St. Pat’s Day party will be on Saturday, March 13th from noon to 3:00 pm.  People and pets are welcome to join us at HAWS for fun, games and treats!  Details at www.hawspets.org.

Brew City Bombshells Burlesque – A Benefit for Battle Against Dogfighting

Saturday March 6 @ the Time Cinema (59th & Vliet) Join Brew City Bombshells Burlesque and the all-female band Crazy Rocket Fuel (rockabilly) for an evening of fun, music and retro-cool! Enjoy your favorite beer, wine or cocktail with the show, meet friendly dogs looking for a good home, shop the Tool Shed’s booth and have a blast! A $10 donation at the door will help prevent dogfighting in Milwaukee. Doors open at 7pm, show at 8pm.
