Sneak Peek Success

Saukville, Wis – The Ozaukee Humane Society welcomed 210 attendees to the new shelter site in Saukville on Saturday, October 2 for a “sneak peek” of the facility, which is currently under construction.  Guests enjoyed self-guided tours, live music, food and drinks, a live auction and even a rainbow.

“We were thrilled with the great attendance at the event,” said Angela Speed, director of development and community relations at the Wisconsin and Ozaukee Humane Societies. “There has been so much community support for the new shelter, and people braved hail and the absence of heat just to get a peak of the building at Highway 33 and Dekora. Even in its incomplete state, it is a remarkable building.”

The ART BARK dog auction was a tremendous success, raising about $10,000! Each uniquely painted fiberglass dog was on display this summer in downtown Grafton. Barb Dickmann, Saukville village president, introduced Tony Enea, who served as the emcee. Enea is also the board president of the Wisconsin and Ozaukee Humane Societies. The winning bids for the dogs ranged from $450 to $1,600 each.

“We are very thankful to the Village of Grafton for launching this public art partnership with us.  They were instrumental in securing sponsors for all the dogs, and finding artists willing to donate their time and incredible talents to create these ten beautiful sculptures,” said Speed  “We were so pleased with the auction results at the Sneak Peek – the funds will help save countless animals in need of care.”

The new animal shelter is scheduled to open in early 2011.
