Dog Parks Have Increased in Milwaukee County Parks

(Milwaukee)- Last year the Milwaukee County Parks Department added two  Dog Exercise Areas for dog owners in Milwaukee County.  They are the Dog Exercise Area in Currie Park, 3535 N. Mayfair Rd., and the Dog Exercise Area in Estabrook Park, 4400 N. Estabrook Drive.  These permit-based areas offer daily and annual passes for admission where dogs may run unleashed.  Open hours are every day of the week from dawn till dusk.

With the additional two sites, the Milwaukee County Park System operates a total of four Dog Exercise Areas, two considered as regional dog park sites. The first is in the northwest portion of the county named Granville Dog Park, 11718 W. Good Hope Place, and the second is known as the Runway Dog Park, 1214 E. Rawson Ave., near the General Mitchell International Airport.

Dog owners using the areas are required to have proof of their pet’s current rabies vaccinations. The dogs also need to be licensed through their owner’s local municipality.  Dog owners should follow the rules and suggestions at the Exercise Areas.  Dog tags may be purchased at Boerner Botanical Gardens, the Wilson Recreation Center, the Milwaukee County Parks Administrative Offices, the Wisconsin Humane Society and MADACC during normal business hours.

The cost for a single annual dog tag for the 2010 Calendar year is $25.  A senior pass for persons 60 years and above, as well as for persons with disabilities is $10. An additional dog tag is $5.  For an application or more information go to countyparks.com or contact the Milwaukee County Parks Department at (414) 257-PARK.
